Well I am sitting at the end of my first work week here in Nicaragua. This week we've been getting ready for the women's group that is coming next week. They will be focusing on working with the Bead Amigas women in Los Rotarios and celebrating the teachers in Villa and Los Rotarios. I can't wait to train new women and set up the year with the other women for Bead Amigas. I went and met with a couple of them this week and they seemed excited to continue on with the project. Fatima is one of our original Bead Amigas (pictured left) and will be working with the women next week. She has three young children and lives in the village of Los Rotarios. I also have been working on a big wall display that we will keep in the house with information on all of the Amigos projects. It's coming along well, but taking a lot of work! So, I've basically been running errands and working on the computer all week (with the exception of collecting hay with Jeremy one day). Not too exciting :(
Tonight Madeline, Kristin, Rossanna, Jeremy, Chris and I will be heading to Managua to stay over night at a hotel and then tomorrow do a bunch of shopping for the house. Managua is the capital of Nicaragua and is about 2 hours from our house here. I'm so excited for the hot shower and swimming pool! While in Managua we're going to look into getting a dog for the house as well. We would really like one to help with all of the cats that hang around and just to have another roommate. haha. But we'll have to see if we can afford one!
I hope everyone is doing well at home and keep in touch!!
A whole shopping expedition in the big city--now THAT is mission work I could have gotten into!
ReplyDeleteAnd a dog for the house is a GREAT idea--those cats were getting pretty brazen with their kitchen raids. Just be sure you teach him/her to be bilingual (which is more than I can say for myself) : -)
Just curious, will Brenda in Villa be part of the bead amigas?
